frequently asked questions
How much pain is involved in plastic surgery?
Many procedures are performed under local anaesthetic these days, but this is still effective and poses less risks than using general anaesthetic. Depending on the procedure, patients may experience some pain after surgery but they are provided with painkillers and the pain should subside within a number of days. In our practice, it is a routine to inject very diluted local anaesthetic even for procedures carried out under general anaesthetic. This fluid can remain in the tissues for few days and take away the pain sensation.
Is plastic surgery a quick and easy way to alter your appearance?
Plastic surgery has developed hugely over the last two or three decades. There are now several surgical procedures that can be performed under local anaesthetic within hours. There are also non-surgical procedures like botox injections that are extremely quick and fuss free.
Is there a “right” age to pursue plastic surgery?
There is no “right age” to pursue plastic surgery although there is little point in having it during your twenties for beauty reasons because you will still have a youthful appearance. However some people have unsightly scars or body issues that they want improved, whatever their age. Stubborn areas of fat collection that cannot be lost through diet or excercise or a humped nose are examples. Some children who are born with problems such as cleft lip or palate or prominent ears are strongly advised to undergo plastic surgery at an early stage of their lives either for functional reasons (in case of lip/palate deformity or to avoid teasing by classmates in case of prominent ears). Plastic surgery is mainly popular however with those in their thirties and above who want to maintain or regain their youthful looks.
What is the difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is used to improve or alter your appearance for aesthetic reasons. Reconstructive surgery is used when a patient has been injured or left scarred by an accident or born with a deformity and needs surgery to reconstruct parts of their body.
